October 2005 - UN Reform Roundtable

The PEP was pleased to host, in cooperation with the United Nations Foundation and the Open Society Institute-Washington office, Shashi Tharoor, UN Under-Secretary-General for Public Information. The discussion focused on implementation of UN reform measures and the outcome deadlines from the recent World Summit.

September 2005 - UN Reform Roundtable

The PEP was pleased to host, in cooperation with the United Nations Foundation and the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a special roundtable discussion, focusing on the outcome of the 2005 World Summit and the Future of UN Reform. July 2005 - Darfur Discussion

A U.S. Holocaust Museum event on peacekeeping policy solutions for the Darfur crisis was held in cooperation with the PEP. Can the African Union Do It Alone? explored the role of peacekeeping in Darfur via a roundtable discussion with Charles Snyder, United States Department of State; Victoria Holt, the Henry L. Stimson Center; Mike Smith, independent analyst; Lt. Col. Joseph Nzabamwita, Embassy of Rwanda; and Sarah Martin, Advocate with Refugees International.

July 2005 - Peacekeeping Roundtable

The PEP was pleased to host, in cooperation with the UN Information Center Washington, Mark Kroeker, Civilian Police Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Discussion topics included the proposed Senior Civilian Police Corps, the use of Formed Police Units in Haiti and Liberia, and the expansion of those units elsewhere, and the ability of UN CIVPOL to maintain law and order in failed state situations.

June 2005 - Advocacy Meeting

On June 22nd, the PEP and the UN Foundation sponsored an advocacy meeting focused on the documentary film The Peacekeepers and grassroots advocacy.

June 2005 - Co-sponsored Film Screening Event

On June 21st, the PEP, the Canadian Embassy, the UN Foundation, the Better World Campaign, and the National Film Board of Canada sponsored a private screening of the documentary film The Peacekeepers. See promotional material.

April 2005 - Peacekeeping Roundtable

On April 19, the PEP co-sponsored with the UN Information Center a peacekeeping discussion with Jane Holl Lute, Assistant Secretary-General for Mission Support in the UN's Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Having recently returned from Sudan, Ms. Lute shared her thoughts on the latest UN peacekeeping operation. More broadly, the discussion focused on current issues confronting UN peace operations, such as use of force, funding, sexual exploitation, rule of law, etc.

February 2005 - PEP Policy Forum Special Briefing

The February Policy Forum featured a presentation by Nick Birnback, External Relations/Media Affairs Officer, Office of the Under-Secretary-General, UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations. A lively and informative question and answer session followed. The presentation featured information on:
