UN chief appoints military adviser for peacekeeping operations

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Tuesday announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Babacar Gaye as military adviser for peacekeeping operations, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters here.
Prior to the appointment, Gaye served for five years as force commander for the UN organization stabilization mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
In addition, Gaye held the position of chief of defense staff for the Senegalese Army from 2000 to 2003.
