    The United Nations mission in South Sudan on Tuesday implicated a rebel leader in the shooting down of one of its aid helicopters last month.

    A statement from UNMISS said preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the August 26 crash of the Mi-8 helicopter, which killed three Russian crewmen and injured a fourth, had "uncovered evidence indicating that the aircraft was shot down".

    September 9, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – The African Union-United Nations joint peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has called on Sudanese authorities to conduct a “full and detailed investigation” on the recent incident which took place at the Kalma IDP camp in South Darfur state capital of Nyala, saying it has no accurate count of the victims.

    The U.N. Security Council called Wednesday on "countries with influence" to press al-Qaida-linked insurgents to release 45 U.N. peacekeepers from Fiji abducted last week in the Golan Heights. A press statement approved by all 15 council members after a briefing by U.N. peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous again demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the Fijian peacekeepers.

    3 September 2014 – The Security Council called again today for the immediate and unconditional release of 45 United Nations peacekeepers seized late last week by an armed group in the Golan, while the Organization’s top peacekeeping official said the UN is continuing to look at ways to enhance safety and security procedures in what has become a “very challenging situation.”
